LG Display announced that the company has renewed its contract with the Japanese tech company called Semiconductor Energy Laboratory or commonly known as SEL. The Japanese SEL has been the panel manufacturing arm of the LG Group for a long time now. An LG company official said in a statement, “We recently entered into a patent license agreement with Semiconductor Energy Laboratory, renewing the license to SEL’s patent portfolio on display technology.”

SEL was established in 1980 and the company specializes in research and development and is currently headquartered in Atsugi, Japan. At first, the company was concerned with researching and developing solar batteries, and gradually the company moved on to other branches.

Back in 2008, SEL started its ventures into oxide semiconductors, and after that, the company has been associated with the research and development of transistors and semiconductor devices, materials, and devices for OLEDs, LCDs, and batteries.

To justify the renewal of the contract, LG Display mentioned that SEL’s patent portfolio has had a major influence on their decision, and went on to mention that SEL’s patent portfolio includes a crystalline oxide semiconductor, OLED, and LCD technologies. It is not surprising therefore that LG Display would choose to continue working with SEL.

On the other hand, LG Display is one of the leading global innovators when it comes to displaying technologies such as thin-film transistor liquid crystal (TFT-LCD) and OLED displays. The company is also famous for manufacturing display panels in a broad range of sizes and specifications which are used primarily in TVs, notebook computers, desktop monitors, tablets. Mobile devices and much more.

More importantly, this division also received the global gaming certification which makes the LG Display the first-ever display company to receive both the Qualified Superior Gaming Performance certification from the British certification company, Intertek, and the High Gaming Performance Gold certification given by the German inspection service called TUV Rheinland.
