One of South Korea’s leading electric vehicle battery manufacturers, LG Energy Solution, announced Friday that the company would start to produce more battery packs for American automobiles goliath Ford Motor Co. as the firm ramps up its global production of electric vehicles including the Mustang Mach-E and E-Transit.
LG Energy Solution will begin the story by doubling the battery production quantity solely allotted for Ford Motor at its plant in Poland by 2023, and predominantly, the further ramp-up is utterly dependent on demand approaching the company.
“We have secured enough battery packs that can produce about 600,000 electric vehicles next year. LG Energy Solution, which has been supplying battery packs to us for a long time, has rapidly increased production volume in Poland, where we get our battery for our electric vehicles,” a Ford Motor official said.
The LG Energy Solution has been widely broadening its business globally; the company’s battery is in demand in many countries. The battery maker initially started to supply its products to Ford in 2020 for two of its electric vehicles.
Ford Mustang Mach-E is unique for its sporty look, and also it has been manufactured as an electric utility vehicle (SUV), which is one of two major products that led Ford’s turn its business into electric vehicles, alongside the automaker’s first electric pickup truck, the F-150, which debuted recently.
The Mustang Mach-E secured record global sales of nearly 55,000 units last year; after enjoying the success, the company started to mass produce the electric SUV. At the end of last year, Ford Motor CEO Jim Farley wrote on Twitter that “the company will increase its production capacity of Mustang Mach-E to more than triple by 2023.” Whilst, LG Energy Solution is the battery supplier to Ford Mustang Mach-E, the vehicles are sold in its major markets, including North America and Europe
