LG had come up with a new premium in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) system. Nowadays, with the increase in demand for EVs, there has also been an increase in the demand for in-vehicle entertainment systems. A few companies are already engaged in manufacturing such systems, but perhaps the most popular of them is LG.

As the company has announced, the company’s newest infotainment system will be present in the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS EV sedan. LG has worked with the famous automaker to deploy its software in the vehicle which features a Pillar-to-Pillar (P2P) display built in the MBUX hyper screen, which is laid over the whole dashboard of the vehicle.

The president of the LG Vehicle Component Solutions Company, Eun Seok-Hyun, said in a statement, “It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to work in close collaboration with a trusted partner such as Mercedes-Benz AG. Being named a valued supplier of automotive displays by Mercedes-Benz AG last year gives us immense pride in knowing that the partnership is showing great results.”

The MBUX Hyperscreen was first introduced by Mercedes-Benz at CES 2021. At that time, it was revealed that the Hyperscreen features an LCD screen, an Instrument Cluster Display or the ICD, and two OLED displays which consist of a Central Information Display or a CID, and a Co-Driver Display or the CDD.

Although the Hyperscreen consists of four different screens, they are housed in such a way that collectively the screens give the impression of one continuous display.

LG’s Production Engineering Research Institute (PERI) provided the in-house expertise for equipment, material components, and advanced production techniques so that LG can adapt its IVI to the Hyperscreen of Mercedes-Benz. PERI also developed core technology in the display which includes the Curved Glass Forming, Surface Treatment, and Curved Display Bonding.
