Last year LG stole the show at CES 2019 with an incredible display of OLED TV concept that retracted into a piece of furniture when it wasn’t in use. And now LG reveals to showcase an OLED TV that rolls down from the ceiling and another that ‘hangs like wallpaper’ at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas next week.

At CES 2020, LG Display will be exhibiting a 65-inch “roll-down OLED” that can be “stored in the ceiling and can be pulled down when desired and rolled up when not in use”. As confirmed to the company about the LG Display of the possibility of flipping the rollable OLED panel on its head in 2018. Back then, the company told us that, “yes, it is certainly possible from a technical standpoint.”

The announcement, made in a press release from the LG Display division, is intended as a teaser of what’s to come. The manufacturer hasn’t shared any specifics about how it works, in other words, other than this sentence: “The 65-inch UHD roll-down OLED TV, which can be installed naturally as part of the space and can only be used down when needed, is expected to increase the level of smart home interior by increasing space utilization.”

LG had a minefield of problems to overcome in order to achieve what the company now claims it has. For starters, it would first need to think of a functional approach that caters to ceilings of all heights.

The consumer technology showcase shall take place in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, and we’ve taken a look at some of the most attention-grabbing devices. LG is also set to launch a number of products for the aircraft cabin. This includes a 55-inch Full HD Transparent OLED display that acts as an aisle partition and screen, a series of 55-inch OLED video walls for airplane cabins and many more.
