Apple removes the ‘Time Remaining’ feature that estimates battery life in the new macOS update. The company has discarded the time remaining estimate that shows up when you click the battery icon. The change is being made in the newest version of macOS Sierra 10.12.2, which hit the Mac Store a few days ago.
There has been a lot of confusion over battery life estimates on the new 2016 MacBook Pro. The time remaining option displays from the menu-bar pull-down on the Mac, observing that it was an inaccurate representation of how much battery is left. According to reports, estimates were lower than expected via the macOS battery life status menu, but there was a clear misunderstanding about how the feature worked.
Apple said to the loop, “the percentage is accurate, but because of the dynamic ways we the computer, the time remaining indicator couldn’t accurately keep up with what users were doing.” Since the battery does not show accurate indicators it is confusing to the users – this is indeed a good decision to discard the feature in MacBook Pro.
Apple’s up to 10-hour battery life claims for the machine are based on a specific machine setup and configuration, so your mileage, as has always been the case with notebooks, will vary greatly on what apps you are using and how hard you are pushing the hardware.
Apple released macOS 10.12.2 a few days ago, which also includes new emoji, and wallpapers, as well as fixes for graphics, Auto Unlock with the Apple Watch, and more.
