Today, the Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek has officially announced the unveiling of the new Pentatonic 2000 flagship 8K commercial smart TV chip.
MediaTek has made significant progress in the realm of smart TVs in recent years and now supports more than 2 billion smart TVs worldwide. In the future, the business plans to use the recently released 7nm Pentatonic 2000 chipset to deliver more cutting-edge capabilities for the next generation of smart TVs.
The new Pentatonic 2000 is said to be intended for top 8K smart TVs with a high refresh rate of 120Hz. This market-leading TV chip has an 8K 120Hz MEMC engine for advanced motion correction optimization of 8K programming.
It also provides an immersive and exquisite viewing experience when combined with the multi-core AI engine that can intelligently improve the image quality of low-resolution content, the second-generation scene recognition, and the third-generation object recognition features, whether it is watching pictures, watching movies, or playing games.
It’s worth noting that the processor supports the industry-leading Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technologies. The new chip can give ultra-bright colors, sharper contrast, richer details, and a more appealing hearing experience while streaming video.
The Pentatonic 2000 not only maintains the industry’s best CPU/GPU requirements but also supports UFS 3.1 storage and makes full use of the 8K screen via split-screen. Even if the window size or display layout changes, OEM manufacturers can still ensure that the content in each window is displayed seamlessly while being optimized for diverse input signals, thanks to smart view technology.
The new chip supports the HDMI 2.1 connection standard out of the box, which helps to avoid embarrassing issues while transmitting 8K content. In terms of networks, the Pentatonic 2000 supports Wi-Fi 6E high-speed wireless networks and 5G cellular mobile networks.
MediaTek is the world’s top supplier of chips for voice assistant devices in terms of voice control. OEM manufacturers can setup up to four directional microphones on the Pentatonic 2000 platform to fully exploit the potential of AI-Voice/Intelligent Voice Assistant.
In a nutshell, the chip is the first to support the global commercial 8K TV broadcast standard, common video coding, and the H.266 high-compression-efficiency media format.
