Here’s the good news for Windows Insider users who could open the external links only in Microsoft Edge! Microsoft will soon allow users to open external links in third-party browsers. It plans to allow users to select 3rd party browsers to open external links.

On March 16, Microsoft released build 17623 of Windows 10 Redstone 5, which forced Windows Insiders to open the external links in Microsoft Edge. In the essence of the novelty, the Insider users who use a Redstone 5 build are forced to open the mail links of the Mail app with Microsoft Edge.

We will begin testing in the Microsoft Edge, which provides the best, most secure and consistent experience on Windows 10 and across your devices – Microsoft

Microsoft announced this change as a winning move to make Windows 10 an even more secure operating system, but probably the real reason behind the Redmond giant was to get people to use Microsoft Edge as their primary operating system as much as possible.

But the users were probably not happy with this move of Microsoft’s. Since the change people have been filing feedback with Microsoft to not force them to use Microsoft Edge thus prompting Microsoft to change their system as soon as possible.

And the changes are here, with the future updates Mail and Calendar app will have Link options under Reading Pane which will allow users to choose if they want the links to open through Microsoft Edge or some other third-party browser.

The next version will also find certain other introduced improvements; there will be a small restyling for the mail folders which will be joined by new icons and Inking capabilities for Mail app as well.

It seems that Microsoft has heard the complaints of its users and is working hard to shape these apps according to the feedback from the users.
