Microsoft acquired PlayFab, the live games platform that possesses several valuable IPs. The acquisition aims at creating and developing more connected games. Both the companies celebrated via blog posts that revealed information and teasers on what to expect from them this year.

Kareem Choudhry, the Corporate VP of Gaming, Microsoft, appreciated the development tools of PlayFab and went on to explain the working process with the tools on Microsoft Azure (the cloud computing platform that’s been developing for a while).

Kareem pointed out that the currently thriving gaming industry with more than a billion gamers has an evolving ecosystem that requires an intelligent cloud, like many other industries.

This means an increasing number of developers are looking to create connected games for mobile, PC and console devices that have a significant emphasis on post-launch operations. However, the cost and complexity of achieving this through custom-built, server-side tools and technologies is high, and PlayFab offers developers a compelling model that scales naturally with their games’ players. – Kareem Choudhry, the Corporate VP of Gaming

On the other hand, the team of PlayFab expressed enticement in its blog as well: “Today we power more than 1,200 live games, and have served over 700 million players. We process more than 1.5 billion transactions a day, nearly 20,000 transactions a second.”

PlayFab’s technology is put to use by leading entertainment companies like Disney, Nickelodeon, NBC Universal, Rovio, Wizards of the Coast, Bandai Namco, and Capcom. The list also includes the ‘fast-growing indies’ such as Hyper Hippo, Fluffy Fairy, and Nvizzio.

Microsoft, with its deep expertise in gaming and cloud computing, is a perfect home for PlayFab as we expand our platform and features. Our customers are worldwide, and Microsoft’s global presence and world-class Microsoft Azure server infrastructure complement PlayFab’s services, making it even easier for studios to focus on building great games instead of back end technology. – PlayFab

It looks like the partnership will greatly impact the live gaming development and cloud services of Microsoft. That’s a load of treats awaiting the developers and gamers! Stay tuned for our timely coverage of related developments of Microsoft’s live gaming expansion.
