Microsoft confirm the official version of Windows 11 22H2 is coming in September this year

Immediately after Windows 11 was announced, the American multinational technology company, Microsoft revealed that the new OS would only be getting feature updates once a year. This is in line with Neowin, to ensure every hardware partners and software products are compatible and ready before being generally available.

Since then Microsoft has been working on the next major version of Windows, which will serve as Windows 11’s first big OS feature update.

This next edition, codenamed “Sun Valley 2,” now known as “version 22H2,” is expected to continue the vision that was first announced with Windows 11 last year, with new capabilities, UI changes, and more fascinating features.

In a blog post today, the American tech giant confirmed that the official version of the Windows 11 22H2 will be released in late September or early October this year. According to the firm, the Windows 11 version 22H2 submission start date will begin by May 31st and is expected to end by September 5 and will be generally available after that, possibly in late September or early October 2022.

The blog post reads:

“Before September 5, 2022, Windows 11 version 22H2-based systems may ship with drivers that are already compatible with Windows 11 version 21H2.”

“Partners wishing to implement systems compatible with Windows 11, version 22H2 can use drivers for components that are compatible with Windows 11, version 21H2 until September 5, 2022.”

Features of Windows 11 22H2 version

As per the reports, Microsoft had been working tremendously on the next-generation Windows 11 22H2 version. To ensure users enjoy the needed standard hardware and software on its products the company has a Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP) that helps verify compatible hardware.

With version 22H2, the Windows Shell is getting a lot of love. Microsoft is still cleaning up the user interface by replacing legacy interfaces with more modern, consistent Windows 11 designs. Version 22H2, for example, adds modern designs to the volume and brightness interfaces that appear when those controls are adjusted via actual hardware buttons. Focus Assist is now part of the Notification Center, making it even easier to use.

Consequently, the new version will feature App folders in the Start menu, a Resizable pinned area in the Start menu, Drag and Drop on the Taskbar and Focus Assist integration with Notification Center.

Aside from the above, the version is expected to come with a New “spotlight” wallpaper feature, New Voice Access accessibility feature, New Live Captions accessibility feature, New gestures and animations for touch users, New snap layouts bar when moving app windows, New Task Manager app, Better OneDrive integration with File Explorer, and Numerous UI improvements and consistency updates.
