Last month Microsoft announced that it plans to shut down the desktop version of Skype 7.0 which is also referred to as Skype Classic in September to replace with the new updated Skype 8.0.

Skype 8 was first unveiled as a mobile redesign last year featured with a total design such as free HD video calls, call recording, and more. But this led some Skype users to be unhappy and made Microsoft face criticisms from its users. And so Microsoft brings forth its change in mind via the initial forum post announcing that the company which has initially extended on Skype 8.0 will extend its support for Skype 7.0 aka Skype Classic.

Based on customer feedback, we are extending support for Skype 7 (Skype classic) for some time. – The Skype Team

It is not clear how long this “some time” will be, however, customers who favor the design of Skype 7 can continue using that version of Skype without an update to Skype 8. It appears that Microsoft has extended its support for the indefinite future due to the feedback from the users.

It seems that Microsoft has favored its customers’ feedback and therefore plans to introduce features as requested by them in the next updated version of Skype 8.
