Microsoft has officially announced its new Surface lineup; Surface Book 2 and Surface Laptop, first introduced in 2017 are now available in India. The Surface Laptop which was launched in May last year is said to be a durable device that runs on the education-focused Windows 10 S operating system whereas the Surface Book 2 launched in October 2017 doubles up as a tablet and comes with up to Intel’s eighth generation Core i7 processors.
Surface Laptop features and specs
As claimed by Microsoft, the Surface Laptop is durable, portable, and lightweight and the design looks sleek with a premium finish, and the iconic Alcantara fabric keyboard is seen on the Surface Pro 4, with backlighting. The Surface Laptop sports a 13.5-inch PixelSense touchscreen display with 1080p resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio, and 3.4 million pixels. Microsoft flaunts it as the ‘thinnest touchscreen LCD display’ on a laptop. The company is touting the presence of “the most battery life in its class” in the Surface Laptop.
Microsoft Surface Laptop sports a thinner, lighter design than the Surface Book 2. It runs Windows 10 S, which loads much faster than the regular Windows 10. Another feature of Windows 10 S is that it can only run apps from the Windows Store, which is verified by Microsoft.
It will be launching in five variants; the base version is powered by Intel Core i5 version along with Intel HD Graphics 620. The Surface Laptop with Intel Core i5, 128GB SSD, and 8GB RAM along with Intel HD Graphics 620. The Intel Core i7 range of the Surface Laptop with Intel Iris 640 graphics will come with up to 16GB RAM + 1TB SSD storage. Other two variants will have 8GB RAM+256GB SSD and 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
Surface Book 2 features and specs
Microsoft Surface Book 2 packs the latest Intel dual-core or quad-core processors, Nvidia GeForce dedicated graphics and guarantees up to 17 hours of battery life. It is available in India in 13.5-inch and 15-inch variants. Microsoft claims that the Surface Book 2 has up to five times more graphics performance than the original Surface Book. The company says that users can use it with mixed reality, or with artificial intelligence, or play immersive games, in the Surface Book 2. It is an amalgamated laptop that is aimed at designers, developers, artists, and scientists.
It has a touch-enabled screen and is powered by the Intel Core i7 8th generation processor. Microsoft says Surface Book 2 is the premium device in their series. Notably, it will support Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth BT4.1 LE, and Xbox Wireless built-in (in 15-inch models). Microsoft Surface Book 2 has two USB 3.0 Type A ports, and one USB Type-C port.
Both Microsoft Surface Laptop and Microsoft Surface Book 2 will be available across offline and online retail stores from today. Flipkart, Paytm, Amazon, etc will be selling both the laptops. Surface Laptop is priced at Rs 86,999 for the starting price, going up to Rs 233,999. While Surface Book 2 will start at Rs 1, 37,999 (Core i5 version), prices will go up to Rs 295,999.
