Microsoft is set to release a new generation of Surface Pro X with an upgraded chipset and preinstalled Windows 11. There are indications that the announcement will be made at the company’s event on September 22.

The release of the new generation of Surface Pro X was revealed by the Energy Star certification even as the Microsoft Surface Pro X was listed on the program website.

The Energy Star program is jointly owned by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. The program champions environmental protection through energy-efficient products and practices. Products that meet the minimum environmental safety standards are issued the Energy star certification.

The listed device has been certified for use by the following countries; the United States, Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan, and Canada.

Recall that earlier in the month, the 2010 model of Surface Pro X also passed FCC certification. There has also been news that the tech giant is testing a new 120hz display for the Surface Pro series. For example, Surface Pro 8 is expected to feature an 11th-generation Intel processor, replaceable solid-state hard drives, Thunderbolt support, and a new 13-inch display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, with a slightly thinner frame. This will be the first Surface Pro device to support Thunderbolt and a 120Hz display.

Microsoft is also believed to be working on a flagship product as part of the Surface Book series. It is, however unclear whether the same display will be used in the series. With the price of the new products expected to exceed $3,000, the upgraded version of the Surface Pro X will certainly include major hardware and design improvements.

These new Surface products are expected to go on sale during the holiday season in the United States.

About the Surface Pro X

The Surface Pro X is a 2-in-1 detachable tablet computer developed by Microsoft in 2019. One year after, the hardware was updated and announced alongside Surface Laptop Go and Surface accessories. The device cost begins at $849.99 US/£849.99.

It is worthy to note that the Surface Pro X tablet listed by Energy Star has the SQ2 feature. This means that it is the 2020 model – rather than the earlier version, which featured an octa-core Microsoft SQ1 processor and was launched in 2019 – which is listed for an upgrade on the website.

The Surface Pro X is almost like a regular Windows laptop now. With this release, most desktop apps run on the 64-bit, and Microsoft is about to deliver x64 app emulation support for Windows on ARM. That should solve most of the lingering app compatibility issues on the Surface Pro X.

With Apple poised to release its own Macs with ARM-powered chips, the race towards ARM laptops is bound to step up a gear. Microsoft is leading with some beautiful hardware and the Surface Pro X has it all.
