MSI held a new product launch virtual conference on November 3, 2021, and at the conference, the company introduced the Z690 series motherboards. This announcement came right when Intel announced its 12th Gen processors and the launch of DDR5 memory kits. Moreover, MSI also used the event to introduce other new products, such as new consoles and e-sports game monitors.
MSI, at the event, revealed that the Z690 motherboards are divided into three series: MEG, MPG, and MAG. The event also revealed that the new series of motherboards support 12th-generation Core processors, fully upgraded CPU power supply, etc. Moreover, the motherboards have fully upgraded the power supply of the CPU, and many of the models come equipped with a direct-connect power supply system. Additionally, the motherboards also come equipped with dual 8Pin power supply interfaces, which means that the motherboards can make the CPU power supply more abundant. All of the models of the MSI Z690 series of motherboards have been upgraded to server-level PCB boards and support PCIe 5.0. The four additional fixed pins on the motherboards are used to give better support to the graphics card.
A few earlier leaks had predicted that the MSI Z690 motherboards would come with an extended heat sink. This has proved to be true. MSI includes the extended heat sink, and the motherboards also come equipped with a thermal pad and a heat pipe with thermal conductivity of 7W/mK. MSI has also taken into account the ease of its users. To make it easier for the users to install the motherboards, it will come with multiple M.2 slots.
At the same virtual event, MSI launched a host that comes equipped with Intel’s 12th-generation Core series processors. Moreover, the host features NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards and runs on Windows 11 operating system.
