The 3-day MWC Shanghai 2019 that kick-started on Wednesday today witnessed a successful 5G remote transmission of China’s first 8K ultra-high-definition TV program.
Cooperatively conducted by China Central Mobile, China Unicom, Huawei, China Ultra HD Industry Alliance, Beijing Digital Video Co. Ltd., the Central Radio and TV Station Shanghai Headquarters, and the 5G Media Application Laboratory of the General Station, the 5G remote transmission test of 8K Ultra HD content of the Central Broadcasting and Television Station demonstrated flawlessly high transmission speed with vivid color and quality, even achieving 8K video transmission at the highest speed of 320Mb/s, which is testament to an increasingly developing 5G technology that aims at high bandwidth, low latency, and wide connectivity.
This has been facilitated by the official issuance of domestic 5G commercial licenses in China.
Through these applications, we have fully verified the advantages of 5G networks in terms of transmission, its low latency, high rate, and large access, and private network technology of slicing technology. The entire Ultra HD TV application provides excellent technical support – Jiang Wenbo, member of the CCTV branch of the Central Radio and Television General Station.
Real-time live broadcasting was carried out with an 8K ultra-high-definition camera being set up in an office area, and a 5G ultra-high speed network was combined with the signal transmission video-audio codec equipment. It helped transmit the TV program signal to the 8K display terminal located at the Shanghai Convention and Exhibition Center.
This technological feat has made China enter its first year of 5G commercial use.
In order to better support this 8K live broadcast, we have a full range of end-to-end support for China Mobile’s 5G base station, terminal, and network transmission to ensure a 320 megabit rate. Requirements, to achieve the high-quality 5G + 8K transmission needs, it should be said that the success of this transmission made a very good attempt for the transformation of the entire media production mode -Wang Xiaoyun, General manager, China Mobile Communications Group Co., Ltd.
Regarding the future of 5G and its commercial use, Li Guangju, General Manager of the Government and Enterprise Client Division of China United Network Communications Co., Ltd., stated that “After 5G coming, we will have a huge and even infinite extension after we have connected everything. Our control will also be extended infinitely. It will have an immense impact on the entire world”.
