The series Naruto has bestowed itself with a number of formidable abilities that fascinate viewers to this date. For instance, Minato Namikage’s Rasengan was among the most powerful jutsu. Even though Rasengan could prove fatal on hitting accurately, it can be easily tackled by either dodging it or shielding oneself.
The same goes true for other jutsu, which include Lightning style Kirin and Chidori, Fire Style Fireball Jutsu, and even Wind Style Rasenshuriken. However, there is one problematic ability that is the toughest to escape from. Amaterasu is Dojutsu manifested by Mangekyou Sharingan and is considered the highest level of Fire Style.
As Amaterasu requires magnificent visual prowess, only two Shinobi – Sasuke and Itachi Uchiha – in the entire Narutoverse are shown using it. Amaterasu burns the target with black flames, which cannot be extinguished until it finishes the prey.
As Amaterasu is an inextinguishable flame, the Shonobi world had found itself in the trap of this ocular ability. However, the series had shown a number of ways to tackle Amaterasu.

Naruto: How can Amaterasu be extinguished?
Extinguishing it by the caster
In the Boruto series, Sasuke Uchiha was shown to burn a Ninja with Amaterasu. However, he changed his mind and extinguished the flame with his visual powers.
The series has shown Amaterasu’s power in Sasuke Uchiha’s left Mangekyou Sharingan. He can control and manipulate the flame as per his own will. when Sasuke and Naruto were trapped in ice by Kaguya, Sasuke manipulate Amaterasu’s flame and freed themselves. This is one possible way to douse Amaterasu.
Sealing Amaterasu
Apart from blowing it out by the caster, the series has shown to stop Amaterasu by sealing it.
When Naruto was under Jiraiya’s protection, he was searched by Itachi Uchiha and Kisame. Both of them almost captured Naruto, who was fortunate enough to be saved by Jiraiya. The time when Jiraiya saved Naruto by casting Frog Mouth Jutsu, Itachi and Kisame escaped the trap by Amaterasu.
It was at this time that Amaterasu was stopped by Jiraiya by sealing it.
Using Almighty Push
During the Forth Ninja War, Kabuto summoned Itachi Uchiha and Nagato Uzumaki’s Edo Tensei. With the efforts of Shisui Uchiha’s eyes, Itachi was able to free himself from the control of Kabuto.
When Itachi was liberated from Edo Tensei’s command, he cast Amaterasu on Nagato. However, Nagato was able to escape from these black flames by using Almighty Push, an ocular ability manifested by Rinnegan.
Absorption by Rinnegan
As the Rinnegan is the advanced level of Sharingan, it has the solution for Amaterasu. Rinnegan provides six powers; Deva Path, Asura Path, Human Path, Animal Path, Preth Path, Narka Path, and Outer Path.
Among these ocular abilities, Preth Path enables the caster to absorb Chakra. And the Amaterasu being a chakra, Rinnegan can soak it easily. The same was done by Jigen in Boruto when he was hit by Sasuke.
