Today, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, NASA, has successfully launched the NASA Launch Services Program to celebrate its 100th launch mission. Based out of NASA Kennedy, the program has matched commercial launch providers with spacecraft needing a lift since 1998.

NASA Launch Services Program

For NASA uncrewed missions, the NASA Launch Services Program is in charge of acquiring launch services and supervising launch preparation and integration activities. This program adds quality and mission assurance to achieve program goals. The NASA Space Operations Mission Directorate oversees LSP’s operations.

Since 1999, NASA has purchased expendable launch vehicle launch services directly from commercial providers, whenever possible, for its scientific and applications missions. Expendable launch vehicles are the best options for launching missions to Earth’s orbit and other planets since they can accommodate all orbital inclinations and altitudes.

For NASA’s purchase and program management of missions utilizing disposable launch vehicles, the Launch Services Program was developed at the Kennedy Space Center. A NASA/contractor team is in place to carry out the goals of the Launch Services Program, which exists to provide leadership, experience, and affordable services in the private sector to satisfy Agency-wide space transportation needs and increase the likelihood of mission success.

Celebrating 100th Launches Mission

In commemoration of the 100th launches missions of NASA’s Launch Services Program, several staff of the program said they had never tried launching rockets, and it doesn’t get old to them as there are different ways of supporting the mission.

Denton Gibson, the mission manager of the launch service program, said, a rocket launch is anything but boring; I mean, it’s exciting no matter anytime I see it never gets old. Meanwhile, the fleet systems manager, Denise Pham asserted that we just talked about the launch; it never gets old.

On the other hand, Tim Dunn, Launch director of the launch service program, pointed out that with liftoff, they are witnessing something quite spectacular and powerful.

“And liftoff there is something we are witnessing just the share impressiveness, just the power of what it takes to put a space graft out of the gravity world we leave in and to see it out of the way from earth to the moon, sun, autoroute even out of the absolute system. I never tried watching that.”

Genevieve Taylor, mission manager launch service program, finally maintained that the intimation that we work is different each day. The way we are supporting the mission is different, so it never gets old.
