American multinational corporation and technology company, Intel has officially announced the unveiling of the long-anticipated i9-12900 KS chip during a press conference.

During an Intel press conference this morning, Gregory Bryant, Intel’s senior vice president and general manager of the client computing division, revealed the new i9-12900KS and said it would be available by the end of the quarter.

According to reports, the S in i9-12900KS stands for Special. The i9-12900KS has eight large cores and eight tiny cores. The big core’s single-core turbo frequency can reach 5.5GHz.

All large cores can maintain higher than 5.5GHz during multi-core workloads, and all large cores can exceed 5.2 GHz during game workloads.

Recently, in a Twitter post by intel, it was revealed that the chipmaker hasn’t finished optimizing it yet, and 5.5 GHz is the next goal. While a 5.5 GHz all-core boost frequency isn’t absurd, the processor will require a lot of cooling, such as the thermoelectric CPU coolers launched with Rocket Lake.

The Core i9-12900K can run at 5.2 GHz thanks to Intel’s Turbo Boost Max Technology 3.0. However, the Core i9-12900K can easily run at 5.5 GHz. This is about a 6% increase.

Except for the increased clock speeds and power consumption, the Core i9-12900 KS will be identical to the Core i9-12900K. It will keep a total of 16 cores, including eight Golden Cove cores and eight Gracemont cores. While the Alder Lake processor will fit into the LGA1700 socket, the Core i9-12900 KS will almost probably require motherboard updates.

However, the American tech giant maintained that the chip has already been put into production and will be available to OEM customers later this quarter.

Recall that in 2019, intel announced the i9-9900KS 2019, which is priced at 4299 yuan and can deliver up to 5.00 GHz all-core turbo frequency.

Since the company has not released a KS version after the i9-9900KS, definitely, the i9-12900KS will be the first KS model of Intel Core for the last three generations.
