Sony quietly released a new PS5 system update, 2.02-06.50.00, which features DualSense Edge support. This new patch will incorporate the DualSense Edge controller functionality ahead of the console’s public release.

A new PS5 system update adds Dualsense Edge support

The key addition in version 22.02-06.50.00 is support for Sony’s latest wireless controller, the DualSense Edge. System performance improvement is also promised in the new version, but it’s likely that you won’t notice any key differences. Since the update is just 1 GB in size, it is expected that only minor changes will be made.

However, there is no reference to this update or any patch notes on the official PlayStation homepage for PS5 firmware updates. Unless it’s a significant upgrade, Sony almost never discusses what it has changed, leaving gamers to discover what has changed with the update.

The DualSense Edge is a new controller that is designed to outperform the original DualSense controller. It will have more advanced functions than the standard DualSense wireless controller. Three alternative caps for the sticks, the option to customize trigger level, mappable back buttons, and readily replaceable stick modules are among the added features.

This new controller is aimed at professional console gamers who want more customization choices for their PlayStation 5 controller, particularly for multiplayer games. On January 26, it will go on sale at an estimated price of $199.99. Its key selling point is improved customizability.

The PS5 Discord integration is leaked to be included in the March update

PS5 owners would be dissatisfied to learn that the new PS5 System update does not include the much-anticipated Discord integration, which would provide audio chat with other gamers.

Nevertheless, in accordance with the leakers (as reported by Insider Gaming), it is slated to be included with the next PS5 7.00 update slated for March of this year. As a result, the release date for PS5 Discord integration is expected to be March 8, 2023.

Sony has busy weeks ahead of it because, following the news of a strong PS5 sales result, the corporation is working harder than ever to get PlayStation VR2 launched. Though the upgraded DualSense controller is only a few days away from release.
