Nikon Z50 is a DX-format digital camera system, first from the brand

Nikon has introduced a new system camera, the Nikon Z50. It is the first DX-format system camera. For the time being, only FX-format system cameras were available from Nikon, these are the more expensive full-frame models.

Simultaneously with the Z50, the manufacturer has also announced two new Nikkor Z lenses, the Nikkor DX 16-50 mm f / 3.5-f / 6.3 VR and the Nikkor DX 50-250 mm f / 4.5-f / 6.3 VR lens. The Z50 has a 20.9 megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor to capture impressive photos and 4K videos.

Nikon Z50 with a hybrid AF system

The Z50 offers the benefits of a mirrorless system in a sturdy, compact Nikon DX camera body. Various functions of the Nikon Z7 and Z6 full-frame system cameras have been taken over, including the large Nikon Z mount and the bright, hybrid AF system.

The Nikon Z50 is also equipped with an electronic viewfinder (2,360,000 pixels), a tilting touchscreen (1,040,000 pixels) and a deep grip that ensures that the camera is comfortably in your hand.

With intelligent eye recognition AF, Nikon’s new system camera is ideal for portraits. Continuous shooting with a maximum speed of 11 fps (with AF / AE) is also possible. The Z50 is fully compatible with the Nikon FTZ mount adapter, so you can also use DSLR lenses with an F mount.

The new DX lenses with Z mount are optimized for the large Nikon Z mount, which receives extra light. These zoom lenses have a fast, quiet and stable focus, making them just as suitable for video as for photos. The handy Nikkor Z DX 16-50 mm f / 3.5-6.3 VR is a flat zoom lens that is suitable for both wide-angle shots and portraits.

The Nikkor Z DX 50-250 mm f / 4.5-6.3 VR is a compact telephoto zoom lens: with this lens, you can also take portraits, but of course, also capture the action in the distance.

The new Nikon camera is powered by the fast Expeed 6 image processor. The hybrid autofocus system has 209 AF points, allowing the camera to focus very accurately. Moreover, the camera can focus very quietly, there is also a ‘Silent photography’ built-in. Thanks to the large ISO range of 100 – 51,200 you can also capture impressive images in the evenings.

Capture videos with the Nikon system camera

Videos are recorded in 4K resolution at a speed of 30 frames per second. It is also possible to record slow-motion videos in Full HD resolution without crop restrictions. In addition, you can make 4K UHD time-lapse films in the camera.

There are 20 built-in effects available to give your recordings an extra creative touch. Thanks to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, in combination with the SnapBridge app, you can easily send photos and videos to your smartphone or other mobile devices for sharing or saving.

The Nikon Z50 system camera is available in the Netherlands from mid-November for a suggested retail price of € 950 (loose body). There are also different kits available, so you can buy the Z50 body + 16-50mm + 50-200mm lens for € 1190. For the body with an FTZ adapter, you have to pay € 1100. At various Dutch retailers, it is already possible to place a pre-order, these will be delivered in mid-November.
