Last week a report published in Bloomberg stated that Nintendo’s new OLED model of the Switch comes with upgrades that are estimated to cost $10 more per unit; the price of the standard model is set at $350, which means that Nintendo was looking for a whopping profit. However, on July 19, Nintendo refused the claims completely.
In an official Tweet, Nintendo claimed that the Bloomberg profit analysis was “incorrect”. The full tweet reads, “A news report on July 15, 2021(JST) claimed that the profit margin of the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) would increase compared to the Nintendo Switch. To ensure correct understanding among our investors and customers, we want to make clear that the claim is incorrect.”
Moreover, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said, “While we are aware there has been covered to that effect, we cannot comment in regards to speculation and rumors about new hardware or software. It would spoil the surprise for consumers and is against the interests of our shareholders, so we are withholding any discussion.”
Although claiming that the profit margin cited by the analysts at Bloomberg is incorrect, the company is refusing to disclose any information regarding the new hardware or software.
Furthermore, Nintendo also addressed the rumor regarding the Switch Pro model: “We also want to clarify that we just announced that Nintendo Switch(OLED Model) will launch in October 2021, and have no plans for launching any other model at this time.”
By refuting the claim that the Switch Pro model would be launching soon with the Switch OLED model, the gaming company has also, indirectly, refuted another claim made by Bloomberg. At least, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch Pro model will definitely arrive in October this year, and not anytime sooner.
