Nissan will launch its Nissan X Opus concept camper this week at the Caravan, Camping, and Motorhome Show at Birmingham’s NEC. What is remarkable about this particular camper is that it uses recycled Leaf EV batteries, which can offer up to a week’s worth of off-grid electricity. The concept of the camper has been developed in collaboration with the folding camper company Opus. This concept camper is perfect for anyone looking for a camping trip but is not an old-school camper who cannot give up on necessities like heat, light, cookers, and stuff.
Nissan claims that this vehicle has enough energy for someone to live off the grid for an entire week, thanks to the Nissan Energy Roam portable and weatherproof power pack. This power pack is built into the Air Opus foldable camper. The power pack uses lithium-ion cells, which are the trademark of the first-generation Nissan electric vehicles. It can store 700Wh and has a power output of 1kW.
It also includes 230v and 12v outputs situated in a compartment at the front of the Air Opus camper. The compartment which houses the outputs is removable; hence, it is easy to charge it from any standard house socket. To be fully charged it takes just an hour. So it is highly convenient too. Nissan is also relying on a 400W solar panel. However, this solar panel takes two to four hours, a slightly longer time to recharge fully.
At the moment to go off-grid for any lengthy period, you either turn to a fossil fuel generator – which isn’t good for ar quality or a peaceful camping ambiance – or you compromise on the power you can use with existing battery solutions. Campers do not have to worry too much about what to pack now going on a camping trip. The camper is equipped with gadgets such as a microwave, fridge, LED lighting, three-pin plug socket, USB sockets that can be used to charge smartphones, 4G mobile Wi-Fi hotspot, and a digital projector with a pull-up screen for streaming movies. The folding camper can accommodate up to six people for sleeping purposes. The starting price for the camper starts from £15,995.
