In a bid to improve its Software-as-a-Service sector, the Finnish telecommunications company Nokia has officially announced the introduction of a new SaaS service today, named “AVA Charging.”

According to the tech giant, the new SaaS service tends to help communication service providers (CSPs) and enterprises quickly commercialize new offerings for 5G and IoT use cases.

Nokia’s AVA Charging

Nokia AVA Charging uses subscription-based software that is consumed on demand and leverages business knowledge gleaned from hundreds of customer interactions to monetize 5G and IoT services quickly. Through AI, machine learning, no code configuration, open APIs, multi-cloud orchestration, and digital ecosystems, AVA offers “Intelligence Everywhere.”

The AVA Charging is highly scalable, supporting environments with over 150 million subscribers, and speeds up the time to market for new CSP services. CSPs can use it to monetize both consumer services like cloud gaming and enterprise services for vertical markets like utilities, logistics, and healthcare.

How Nokia’s AVA Charging Helps CSPs Drive 5G and IoT Monetization

In a multi-vendor context, the new SaaS solution may be linked with 5G Standalone core network services to support brand-new business charging models based on many variables, including as low latency, high throughput, device density, and location. For CSPs and businesses, it can be deployed rapidly and takes the burden out of on-site software maintenance and updates.

The Nokia/Qvantel Digital Monetization Solution as a Service, which combines Nokia AVA Charging with Qvantel’s Flex BSS, can also include it. By having a different BSS stack to handle new 5G prospects, CSPs can benefit from a quicker time to market and more agility made possible by no-code configurability.

Following the releases of Nokia AVA Network Data Analytics Function and Nokia AVA for Energy earlier this year, Nokia AVA Charging is the company’s ninth SaaS offering.

Company’s Reactions

Reacting to the new SaaS service, Nokia AVA Charging, John Abraham, Principal Analyst at Analysys Mason, said Nokia’s timely provision of a SaaS-based, no-code charging solution will help CSPs that are hesitant to adapt their charging systems.

In his words: “Nokia’s timely offer of a SaaS-based no-code charging solution will accelerate monetization for CSPs who realize the need to transform their charging systems for 5G, but hesitate due to lengthy BSS transformation cycles and 5G network integration complexities.”

On the other hand, Mark Bunn, Senior Vice President, Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, pointed out that through the delivery of 5G network components as SaaS, this new SaaS arsenal will aid CSPs and businesses in creating a dynamic digital infrastructure.

“This latest addition to our SaaS arsenal supports CSPs and enterprises in having a dynamic digital infrastructure through 5G network components delivered as SaaS; and provides them with the necessary pay-as-you-go, pay-as-you-grow commercial model to help them reach their desired business outcomes,” said Mark Bunn.
