In a significant move to meet the ever-growing demand for high-capacity broadband connections in India, Nokia has announced a strategic partnership with TATA Play Fiber to launch the nation’s first WiFi 6-ready broadband network. This collaboration marks a crucial milestone in India’s telecommunications industry, where access to reliable, high-speed internet has become a necessity for both residential and enterprise users.
Nokia – TATA Play Fiber Partnership
Under the partnership, Nokia will provide a variety of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and Wi-Fi equipment to TATA Play Fiber to facilitate the growth of its broadband network throughout India. In particular, Nokia will provide its cutting-edge Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi mesh Beacons-equipped Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Terminal (ONT).
Wi-Fi 6 enables Tata Play Fiber to provide clients with rich interior experiences and distinctive offerings. Users can experience high-speed internet in any area of their home thanks to the new deployment’s clever mesh Wi-Fi 6. The simple-to-install technology can provide gigabit speeds to several Wi-Fi networked devices and support low-latency applications like gaming. Support for the WPA3 standard also improves network security.
Additionally, the Nokia solution’s Mesh technology, which will guarantee seamless coverage for expansive client premises and locations with barriers like concrete walls, is one of its primary features.
Nokia’s WiFi 6 mesh technology is best suited for SOHO businesses, which constitute a sizable addressable market in India, as well as for private residences with big and/or multi-floor spaces. Utilizing its AI/ML software to detect traffic patterns, issues, and possible outages in the GPON network to maximize the end-user experience is another unique element of the Nokia solution.
Boosting Coverage and Speed with the Best-in-class Optical Networking Solution
Speaking about this strategic collaboration, Anand N Sahai, CEO at Tata Play Fiber, said the implementation of this cutting-edge, best-in-class optical networking solution will increase coverage and speed for numerous smart devices in all tech-dependent households and businesses.
Vinish Bawa, Head of Enterprise, Webscale & Emerging Business, India, at Nokia, said: “Nokia has been the world leader in optical line terminal (OLT) technologies, and we are proud to be a close partner for Tata Play Fiber in India. This deal is an extension of the work we have already done together and will also notch up a first for India by upgrading the network to be WiFi 6 ready.”
