Facebook ‘s new virtual reality headsets Oculus Rift S and Oculus Quest, are already available for pre-order in 23 countries starting at $399, with shipments starting on May 21. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg last month (30) at the F8 conference in San Jose, California.
Facebook is apparently “surprising” some of its Oculus Quest customers by shipping the headsets more than two weeks early. Officially, the headsets will ship from May 21. However, in a sweet surprise, some customers have already received shipments of the standalone virtual reality headsets more than two weeks earlier than expected.
The original Oculus Rift was launched by the company three years ago, and during that time Facebook took no effort to make the line more robust. The Rift S comes with cameras built into the headset itself and a hand-held sensor for use on the PC. Oculus Quest, which does not need to be connected to a computer, and therefore is independent, has four external cameras.
Facebook took advantage of its developer conference to show the news related to its virtual reality division. Recall that the company of Mark Zuckerberg bought Oculus to focus on the development of virtual reality, and progress continues to produce excellent products that are increasingly closer to the needs and expectations of users.
The latest novelty is Oculus Quest, a virtual reality headset with a level of brutal integration that eliminates the need for any kind of external accessory to operate and allow you to immerse yourself in a world of unlimited virtual reality. Until now, the most portable version offered by Oculus was Oculus Go, an excellent price headset that allowed us to enjoy the content, applications and virtual reality games without the need for a PC or mobile phone. The integrated system within the device allowed us to execute the Oculus own operating system.
Oculus Go does its job quite well, however, the virtual reality experience that it offers is limited, since it forces the user to be immobile in a place by simply looking around. But with Oculus Quest everything changes, since now we will have total freedom to move, thus achieving an area of action that introduces us even more into the virtual experience. And all this without the need of a PC or mobile phone.
The headset arrives with a viewfinder equipped with many cameras responsible for scanning the environment to create a virtual gaming area. This game area will be limited in the image of the viewer whenever we approach it, so at all times we will know how far we can go.
