OnePlus has previously hinted on its Twitter account that it’ll add wireless charging to its phones in the future. Well, the future seems to be really far as recently CEO Pete Lau did reveal in an interview that its upcoming flagship OnePlus 7 will not have wireless charging technology.
OPPO and OnePlus do operate under the same parent company, BBK Electronics, and so they share supply chains and technologies in their corresponding smartphones, thus making this one of the primary reasons that their smartphones look and function similarly. Last year, OPPO did file a patent for a 15W wireless charging technology that has been developed, but it seems that the company is not yet ready to execute it right now.
OnePlus charging is one of the best, and wireless charging is far inferior. – Lau said through an interpreter in an interview on Monday at MWC 2019.
As for the OnePlus 7 specs are set to run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor with higher RAM and storage variants. It may also borrow McLaren Edition’s Warp Charge 30 ultra-fast charging technology. Another prominent feature on the OnePlus 7 is going to be HDR streaming. There are also speculations of the OnePlus 7 using Sony’s IMX 586 sensor to offer a 48-megapixel rear camera, similar to the Redmi Note 7 and Honor View 20.
Every high-end feature is packed to its fullest but yet it lacks a significant feature as most of the smartphone manufacturers including Apple, Samsung, Google, LG, and many others are already members of the Wireless Power Consortium. And while we know that Oppo has joined the consortium, it is yet unknown when we can expect a wireless charging technology in the company in spite of many previous hints and rumors.
