OnePlus started its venture into the smart TV segment with the launch of the OnePlus TV Q1 and the OnePlus TV Q1 Pro, last year in September. The Chinese brand is now targeting the affordable smart TV market for its Indian consumers.
OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau mentioned that the company will venture into manufacturing affordable smart TV on July 2. So far this offer is exclusive to the Indian market. His tweet read, “It’s official. We’re making our premium smart TV experience more accessible to our Indian community.”
As per the reports from the company, OnePlus is aiming at launching new TVs around the price of INR. 15,000; additionally, the mid-range TV will go up to Rs. 20,000 and up to Rs. 40,000.
It should be mentioned in this context that India’s entry-level smart TV segment alone amounts to 45% of the overall smart TV market, whereas the mid-level segment (up to Rs 40,000) owns a 33 percent market share.
This would not be the first time that a smartphone manufacturing company has gone into manufacturing smart TVs. A few of the heavyweight names in this respect include Realme, Nokia, and Motorola. These brands recently launched its smart TVs in the Indian market.
On the other hand, the Chinese tech giant, Xiaomi also has a number of TV offerings in India, and, arguably, the company has managed to create a monopoly when it comes to smart TVs in India. The other desirable company here in India, Samsung dominates the overall TV segment in India.
Smart TVs are not going anywhere, and their demand will only increase in the upcoming future. Likewise, the main objective of many smart TVs ends up being that they can accommodate various OTTs right now. If OnePlus is planning to bring affordable smart TVs in the market, the market would expect smart TV to feature OTT content.
