The popularity of generative AI, in recent years, has prompted most tech firms to drive their energy towards AI-powered tools. As we can see from Microsoft’s OpenAI to Google’s Bard then Baidu’s Ernie Bot. Just last week Microsoft announced the launching of OpenAI’s GPT-4 powered chatbot into its Edge browser.
Now, it seems Opera is also following the same direction. As reported by Techcrunch, Opera has begun integrating generative AI chatbots powered by ChatGPT and ChatSonic into its desktop browsers Opera and Opera GX. These new tools, according to the browser, are available for early access across all desktop platforms.
Integrating AI-powered Tools To Opera Browsers
Announcing the integration of the generative AI chatbots into its desktop browsers Opera and Opera GX, Opera’s product director Joanna Czajka said in a statement that AI-generated content is a game-changer for web browsing and the firm is committed to giving users new browsing superpowers.
“AI-generated content is a game-changer for web browsing. Our goal is to use these technologies to give our users new browsing superpowers – reimagining how they learn, create, and research. Opera is actively expanding its AI program into AIGC for browser, news, and gaming products through its solutions and new and existing partnerships, said Joanna Czajka.”
With the release of this feature, Opera users can now generate AI prompts by highlighting a text on a website or typing them out. These chatbots can also provide you with summaries of publications or webpages, create your social media posts, or provide you with suggestions to help you come up with ideas. To use this functionality, users must manually activate AI prompts through settings.
The firm, which is owned by a Chinese consortium, has also included ChatGPT and ChatSonic in the sidebar of its browsers. Opera claims that ChatSonic’s bot, which is powered by GPT-4, can also let users create graphics from text inputs while ChatGPT can also work with text. Further, the firm added that it plans to announce more AI-powered features in the future, powered by its oPT-based model.
