In the event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in 2017, Chinese manufacturer Oppo presented a dual-camera configuration with 5x zoom, which is one of the most revolutionary tech advancements for the mobile industry. For the next company event, which will be held in February 2019 in the city of Barcelona, Spain, Oppo promises more. Leaked patent documents previously revealed that the company is working on a camera with 10x hybrid optical zoom technology.

Oppo’s earlier patent showed a technology that prevents the smartphone from having its screen broken in a drop. And now the Twitter profile Ice Universe, which gained visibility with Samsung device leaks, has now talked to an Oppo employee who confirmed the introduction of 10x optical zoom camera technology during MWC 2019.

The patent sketches show a dual-camera configuration with a flash unit. Unfortunately, more detailed explanations of the operation of the technology are not available in the patent documents. With six research institutes and four R&D institutes around the world, Oppo is known for innovative features in its smartphones. The Oppo Find X, launched in 2018, gained prominence by being the first to use a sliding machine technology to open the front and rear cameras.

The technology launched on the MWC 2017 by Oppo includes the dual camera module with a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. The latter is hidden in the camera module in a structure similar to a periscope. In addition, there is a prism to divert light to the telephoto lens to zoom in with greater depth. This technology has yet to be marketed.

Rumors suggest that Oppo’s 10x hybrid zoom technology will be seen on Oppo F19 and F19 Pro devices. This series can be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset and would have a screen without notches, with only one hole for the front camera, as seen on the Samsung devices with Infinity-O technology. The Chinese manufacturer is also expected to announce its first foldable smartphone in early 2019.
