Oppo at a media event in Beijing, officially announced the R15 and Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition today, March 19. It came off as a surprise from the brand as they previously claimed that the smartphone duo would be announced on 31st March. Today’s announcement reveals the specs and price details of Oppo R15.
First, with the design where the R15 duo is bearing a black glass, unlike the preceding R series devices offering a metal unibody build. Next is the display, which is also the highlight of the smartphones: full-screen OLED with 6.28 inches diagonally and supporting 1080 x 2280 FHD+ resolution. The appearance as well showcases the iPhone X-ish notch that makes the display carry a 19:9 aspect ratio. The screen-to-body ratio is an impressive 90%.
In terms of performance, R15 packs a MediaTek Helio P60 octa-core processor clocking at 2.0GHz and is supported by Mali G72MP3 GPU. R15 Dream Mirror hosts Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset clocking at 2.2GHz and is supported by Adreno 512 GPU. Both models house 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM that can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD.
The much-awaited camera department gets R15, 16 MP, and 5 MP rear dual sensors, and the Dream Mirror Edition with 16 MP and 20 MP. Both phones offer features such as dual camera bokeh, 3D portrait lighting, and AI smart scene recognition.
Both the phones (again) feature a 20 MP front selfie snapper with AI Smart Beauty. The front camera is equipped with the 3-HDR technology of Oppo, providing real-time grading exposure. It as well carries the AI Wisdom Beauty that impacts group selfies with personalized face beauty options. This is applicable for up to 4 people in one shot.
R15 will come off with a 3,450mAh battery and its Dream Mirror counterpart with a 3,400mAh capacity. The handsets have the support for VOOC flash charge that will give users a 2-hour talk time for a quick 5-minute charge, claims Oppo!

Available color variants are red, white, and purple. R15 Dream Mirror Red has a tag of 3,299 Yuan or about Rs. 33,721. The Ceramic Dark variant of the R15 Dream Mirror has a ‘special screen design’ and is priced at 3,499 Yuan or Rs. 35,766. All three models will be going on sale starting April 1 in China.
As a footnote, Oppo isn’t releasing its R series phones in India, which makes the R15 lineup unlikely to get an India launch. However, the brand is expected to launch F7 and F7 Youth in the country by March 26. These smartphones are supposed to be affordable and would have lots of similarities with the R15.
One highlight of the F7 duo is their 25 MP front camera for selfies, packed with similar AI-powered specs as of R15. The iPhone X-ish notch and the screen-to-body ratio are other notable similarities.
