Today, the OPPO Inno Day 2020 event exhibited the OPPO X 2021 rollable concept smartphone, OPPO CybeReal AR application, and Oppo AR Glass 2021. The theme of this virtual event was ‘Leap into the Future.’

The “scroll screen” concept smartphone, Oppo X 2021, comes with the “continuously variable OLED display.” The model features a 6.88 mm stepless OLED flexible scroll screen, which can be unfolded like a picture scroll. The minimum screen size is 6.7 inches, and the maximum is 7.4 inches.

The model actually toggles between the two screen sizes mentioned. And the video resizes itself to fill the screen. Also, the system menus and Twitter have switched between their phone interface and tablet interface to match the screen size. Oppo also adds that the user can easily customize the screen size, so one need not be limited to 6.7 inches or 7.4 inches. That is why the “continuously variable” label comes.

Levin Liu, OPPO Vice President and Head of OPPO Research Institute, said that the Oppo X 2021 remains in the concept stage, but he expects that consumers will be able to avail of this “at the right time.”

At this same event, the Dongguan based Chinese company has unveiled the Oppo AR Glass 2021, a follow-up to the original model from December 2019. These new concept glasses feature a “split design,” which relies on a smartphone connection (Find X2 Pro) based on Snapdragon 865, making them almost 75 percent lighter than the earlier ones.

But they still give a bunch of sensors for real-time SLAM local mapping and gesture tracking (up to 21 markers per hand): stereo fisheye cameras, a Time-of-Flight sensor, and an RGB camera.

A common and affordable implementation on AR glasses is the “Birdbath” optical solution, which is expected to give a 90-inch TV screen experience. These glasses will also support voice command via Oppo’s Breeno voice assistant.

According to OPPO, the AR Glass comes with centimeters accuracy by using technologies like its time-of-flight (ToF) camera, binocular fisheye cameras, and spatial localization calculations.

The third announcement is Oppo’s CybeReal concept, AR application. The goal is to provide high-precision AR positioning with centimeter-level accuracy and within 1-degree spatial positioning accuracy and high positioning speeds down to milliseconds.

Combining data from GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and network information, CybeReal will use AI to make out what the camera is seeing for better positioning performance. This application will use Oppo Cloud’s offering on digital modeling, data storage, content management, and data restoration.
