LG is on the top of the news for the LG G7, which is expected to be launched at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2018. Consequently, its first rumors are already circulating on TechGenYZ, as for example, its release date, features, and specifications.
Indeed, today the LG G7 is again news because of the leakage of one of its supposed characteristics – an iris scanner. This will not be limited to being a security tool anymore.
Iris reader or front camera?
As we read in LetsGoDigital, the LG G7 phone seems to have an iris scanner. It will be, therefore, the first mobile South Korean firm with this technology, although brands like Samsung have already integrated it in their terminals, such as the Galaxy S8 or the Galaxy Note 8.
However, the source ensures that this iris scanner will go a step further. First of all, they talk about the ability of the sensor to detect if it is a photograph or a “real” eye since it could ask the user to follow with a series of points on the screen.
Second, it seems that LG will try to combine two types of cameras in this iris scanner. The first will have the mission of obtaining very detailed photographs of the iris by illuminating it with infrared light. The second will aim to filter this infrared light as it sometimes interferes with taking a “normal” photograph.
In fact, at the Korea Electronics Show (KES) last year, LG introduced a kind of “all-in-one” module that could work with both front-facing and iris scanners. By linking ends, we could predict that the future LG G7 iris scanner will also be a front camera instead of having both features separated.
