Before the occasion of the New York International Auto Show, Porsche has just shown its new Porsche 911 Speedster in the production version, which will be offered in a limited edition of 1,948 units, as had already been confirmed last October. Thus returns a mythical denomination of Porsche.
This nine-ton so special equips the same atmospheric boxer engine of the 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, so we’re talking about big words. In this case, the 4.0-liter boxer six-cylinder, capable of rising to 9,000 rpm, develops a power of 509 hp and a maximum torque of 469 Nm. The best of all? Only the GT Sport manual gearbox is available.
The German brand for this 911 Speedster accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds (0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds) and a top speed of 309 km/h. At the moment Porsche announces that it will be available from May and will reach US dealerships by the end of 2019, although probably most are already sold.
A convertible GT3, in essence
As you would expect from a Speedster model, this 911 sports the characteristic windshield and recessed windows, manually operated tarpaulin hood or the double hump of the rear, which is also made of carbon fiber.
In addition, Porsche Motorsport has sought maximum lightness for the model, thanks to lightweight panels for doors, fabric handles, front and rear polyurethane bumpers, carbon fiber elements (boot lid, wheel arches, gear knob, slats of the thresholds of the doors, etc …) with brakes of series (PCCB), that save 50% of weight with respect to the brakes of conventional steel.
For this reason, a manual mechanism has been used for the canvas roof and, for example, the air conditioning has been dispensed with, although the customer can equip it without any extra cost. The manual gearbox, meanwhile, saves about 4 kilograms compared to the seven-speed manual gearbox of 911 and 18 kilograms compared to a dual-clutch PDK transmission.
