‘Stifled,’ an echolocation-based horror game created by the Singaporean studio Gattai Games, is all set to pave its way to Rift, Vive, and PC on 10th July 2018. The hitherto PSVR exclusive game shall be available on Rift, Vive and PC through Steam, Humble, Itch.io, GreenManGaming, and Razer Game Store, and for Rift on the Oculus Store.

The game is premised around the idea that its protagonist, David Ridley, who is, in turn, the gamer himself, shall be struck blind suddenly, making the world around him go dark. In such a situation, with one sense completely dead, the protagonist shall have to use sound to see brief illuminations of the world around him.

The onboard mic is used to allow the gamer to use his voice or an optional button press to try and ‘see’ the world around him, in a process essentially similar to the echo-locating process used by bats and dolphins. This echo-locating comes with its own downside since it also attracts the attention of horrifying creatures that lurk everywhere, hunting the gamer through dank caves and all kinds of creepy destinations.

The game combines an intense way of managing sight and sound, and extreme situations at times necessitate alerting a dark creature in order to escape an area alive. While features like running water and ringing phones help as waypoints along the way, ultimately it comes down to the gamer to decide when and how to escape the dangers lurking around every corner.
