Qualcomm has introduced a new Snapdragon 710 Mobile Platform that’s built on 10nm process technology. It is embraced with the possession of a multi-core AI Engine and neural network processing abilities.
Being the pilot mobile platform of the new 700-tier portfolio, it targets empowering high-end smartphones by allowing select premium-tier features across a mass audience. It provides new architectures designed for significant performance advancements as compared to the 600-tier in several areas: AI, capture, display, connectivity, performance, and battery.
For AI applications, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 platform can offer double the performance advancement of by Snapdragon 660. The platform’s newly improved architectures, such as Hexagon DSP, Qualcomm Adreno Visual Processing subsystem, and Kryo CPU of Qualcomm, are infused together to boost AI apps intuitively and efficiently.
In terms of capture, the platform’s Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP has the ability to capture professional standard photos and videos. Features include superior low-light photography, noise reduction, image stabilization, fast auto-focus, real-time bokeh effects, and smooth zoom. It can deliver super resolutions with ‘up to 32 MP single and 20 MP dual ISP.’ Additionally, the AI Engine ensures deep portrait modes and even Face Unlock with active deep sensing.
Among display features, the 710 platform holds 4K HDR playback for HDR videos and apps, which is present only in the 800-tier. Wider color gamut, depth, and greater brightness are expected to enhance video quality for 4K HDR video contents across most popular streaming services.
Regarding connectivity, the features are a new Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, advanced 4G LTE technologies, and wireless technologies. The 4G LTE techs include MIMO technology and License-Assisted Access (LAA). The wireless techs are Bluetooth 5, Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus, and Qualcomm Broadcast Audio.
The overall user experience also involves the battery life, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC is boasted of Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology with 50% charging capability in 15 minutes. Furthermore, the Kryo 360 is built on ARM Cortex technology and is optimized to deliver 15% faster app launching, 25% faster web browsing, and 20% overall uplift in performance.
The mobile platform was made available starting yesterday, May 23. Consumer devices will start having the platform in the year’s second quarter.
