On November 15, Qualcomm announced that its Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit would take place starting on November 30 and will last up to December 2, 2021. It does not surprise anyone that the company will launch a new generation of flagship mobile platforms at this summit.
Previous news leaks had announced that the new generation of mobile phone processor would be called the Snapdragon 898 or Xiaolong 898, which corresponds to the previous generation Snapdragon 888; however, recent development in this area has announced that the new processor will be named Snapdragon 8 gen1, instead of Xiaolong 898. A Chinese digital blogger posted on Weibo on November 15 that the official name of sm8450 or the Xiaolong 888 could perhaps be Snapdragon 8 gen1.
The new processor uses a higher frequency than its previous generation: the 8-gen1 is supposed to be 20% higher than the previous Snapdragon 888 processor. It is highly likely that Mi 12 and Nubia smartphones, slotted to be launched by the end of this year, will be powered by the new phone processor by Qualcomm.
The ‘gen 1’ in the name refers to generation 1 which is the abbreviation of the first generation. Some game consoles and Intel processor core display architectures use the same naming process. If Qualcomm indeed adopts this new naming system, it may mean that the processor manufacturer might do away with the past digital naming method.
The Snapdragon 8 gen1 will be built using Samsung’s 4nm processor, and the CPU of the processor will consist of the Cortex-X2 super large core (with 3.0 GHz), the Cortex-A710 large core (2.5GHz), and Cortex A510 small core (with 1.79GHz) composition. Moreover, it may also come with GPU integrated Adreno 730. Apart from Mi 12 and the Nubia smartphones, a few sources have mentioned that the Motorola Edge X may also debut with this new Qualcomm processor.
