Ray Tracing technology will be implemented into Samsung’s new generation phones, according to a tweet sent by Samsung Exynos’ official Twitter account today.

AMD and Samsung have revealed that the RDNA 2 architecture, which is also used in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, will be combined with Samsung’s Exynos processor. Despite the fact that the AMD GPUs on the new Exynos SoC are believed to support both ray shading and ray tracing, Samsung has just confirmed that they are working on adding ray tracing technology to the new Exynos GPUs.

The Twitter post reads:

Recall that in June 2021, AMD announced the introduction of RDNA 2 graphics technology on next-gen Samsung Exynos SoCs at Computex.

Ray tracing is a method of simulating the physical behavior of light by calculating the position of light and the area of reflection. Samsung has also mentioned mobile gaming, so it’s possible that we’ll be seeing ray tracing games on modern smartphones soon.

The Exynos 2200 has an octa-core CPU with a prime CPU core clocked at 2.59GHz, three high-performance CPU cores clocked at 2.5GHz, and four power-efficient CPU cores clocked at 1.73GHz, according to Geekbench.

The benchmark listing shows ARM v8 CPU cores, despite speculation that the Exynos 2200 could have Cortex-X2 CPU, Cortex-A710, and Cortex-A510 CPU cores based on the ARM v9 architecture. The chipset includes a built-in 5G modem as well as an AMD RDNA2-based mobile Radeon GPU.

Previous benchmarks of the same chipset showed that it outperformed Apple’s A14 Bionic in terms of graphics performance, but the latest listing on Geekbench shows the same Exynos 2200 performing below average.
