Samsung to Offer Cheaper OLED Panels for 2019 iPhone Models

The OLED panels used in the latest iPhone series, i.e., iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max since last year has been supplied by Samsung. The high production cost is the result of those OLED panels which made them quite expensive for the end users. Recent reports claim that Samsung will provide cheaper OLED screens for the 2019 iPhone XS Max, as the Californian giant seeks to reduce costs and increase profits.

The thinner, lighter and more affordable panels will enable Apple to be more flexible with its 2019 iPhone XS Max pricing. However, more accessible doesn’t mean worse. In fact, Samsung has incorporated the so-called Y-Octa panels found on the Galaxy Note9, S9, and S9+ that make use of the in-cell touch technology.

The new Y-Octa OLED display uses a slightly different kind of panel arrangement. Unlike conventional OLED panels on existing iPhones that have a separate touch layer sitting on top of the OLED panel, the Y-Octa panel will integrate the touch panel into the OLED panel.

Well, this isn’t the first time that Samsung has approached Apple for using the touch-integrated displays in the new iPhones. As production increases, we hope to see this display technology used in perhaps all OLED models of future iPhones.
