Samsung Electronics, a global leader in consumer and industrial electronics, has joined hands with TÜV SÜD, a global player providing quality, safety, and sustainability solutions, to unveil a new testing platform for verification and validation of Samsung’s automotive LED components. Earlier today, the testing platform was introduced in an event organized at the headquarters of TÜV SÜD Korea in Seoul, Korea.
The collaboration between the two companies is a pioneering effort in the industry, where a LED Manufacturing Organization had tied up with globally-recognized quality certifying authority for testing the quality, performance, and reliability of automotive LED components. This is a first-in kind of approach, as earlier, the automotive LED component manufacturers were generally required to submit in-house testing results of their products to OEMs.
This partnership will demonstrate an extraordinary technical assurance and verification to automotive LED customers of Samsung. This would be possible due to the high global standard verification process of TÜV SÜD.
TÜV SÜD testing of Samsung’s LED components would be based on AEC-Q102, the global standard for automotive components. Additionally, there would be other relevant safety tests that will be adopted by Samsung and TÜV SÜD. After the LED Component passes a jointly administered test, a report will also include a certificate having a double octagon mark from TÜV SÜD.
Stefan Rentsch, president and CEO of TÜV SÜD Korea holds Samsung Electronics’ decision, for further testing and validation of the quality and reliability of their automotive LED products, in high esteem. He also hoped that the partnership between Samsung Electronics and TÜV SÜD Korea would inspire other automotive components manufacturers to achieve a new level of product safety and quality across the industry.
Sung-Kwan Lim, Vice President of the LED Quality Team at Samsung Electronics said that they have taken a major step to ensure product excellence and the partnership with TÜV SÜD’s will validate quality, safety, and reliability further. He also said that they will continue to raise the quality bar in automotive LED components manufacturing and would work hard to offer the highest level of assurance to global automotive component suppliers.
In July 2017, the Acceptance of the Client’s Testing certificate by TÜV SÜD was awarded to Samsung Electronics’ LED testing laboratory in recognition of the quality and reliability of Samsung’s automotive LED component testing efforts.
