In two weeks, Samsung will unveil its new Galaxy Note 10 line-up. At least two models are coming, the Note 10 and the Note 10 Plus. The design is now known. It will be the first Samsung smartphone with a punch-hole camera in the middle. The Korean manufacturer has also submitted several trademarks to safeguard the names of its new functions.

Samsung Smart ISO and AI-ISO

On July 23, 2019, Samsung again filed a trademark with the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) and the IPO (Intellectual Property Office) in Great Britain. This concerns the Smart ISO and AI-ISO names.

Both applications were submitted by Fieldfisher from the UK, this company trades more often on behalf of Samsung Electronics. Earlier this month, Fieldfisher was also responsible for the request of ‘DepthVision Lens’.

The applications for AI-ISO and Smart ISO are categorized as Class 9. Both include the following description; ‘cameras, smartphones, camera sensors, software for the image sensor.

From the name, it can be seen that Samsung intends to improve the ISO sensitivity range of the camera and make it smarter. ‘AI’ of course stands for Artificial Intelligence or Artificial Intelligence with self-learning ability.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 gets an improved camera

The camera of the new Note will probably be able to adjust the ISO values automatically based on the lighting conditions. If it is daytime, then a low ISO value is sufficient. Do you want to make a detailed evening recording? Then you need to use a higher ISO value, but this has the side effect that more noise occurs.

In addition, the camera is able to remember your preferences so that the results will only get better over time. The Galaxy S10, launched earlier this year, has an ISO range of 50 – 800. However, more and more manufacturers are opting for a larger ISO range.

This started with photo manufacturer Sony, which has been providing its flagship smartphones with high ISO values for some time. The Xperia XZ2 Premium, launched last year, is equipped with an ISO range up to ISO 51,200.

Earlier this year, Huawei chose to integrate a Super Spectrum image sensor in the Huawei P30, this sensor also offers an exceptionally large light sensitivity range, up to ISO 204,800. All with one goal; nicer shots in poor lighting conditions.

Earlier it was rumored that the Galaxy Note 10 will have a variable aperture. Although Samsung has of course been using this for some time for its top models, this time there are not two, but three aperture steps available. Previously you could choose from f / 1.5 and f / 2.4. With the Note 10, it will most likely also be possible to opt for f / 1.8. An ideal brightness for portrait photos with a blurred background, this extra step can also be useful in poor light conditions.

So it seems that the camera of the new Note will contain several new highlights. A ToF 3D depth camera will also be implemented, the trademarks for ‘DepthVision Lens’ and ‘Make & Play 3D’ is also related to this.

On August 7, 2019, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Event is scheduled in New York, then the Korean manufacturer will reveal all details regarding its new Note 10 smartphone series. The high-end smartphones will probably also be offered immediately via a pre-order, although the 5G models are likely to be launched at a later date.
