The hints and whispers have been continuous about Samsung Galaxy S10 for quite a while now. And now reliable tipster Ice Universe has tweeted out one possible rumor about the Galaxy S10 and that it will come with an Ultrasonic Fingerprint reader and ditch the iris scanner.

Samsung is letting go of its iris scanning technology and is integrating the ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy S10. The new ultrasonic sensor is said to be much better than the current optical solutions in the market. Samsung is set to introduce many significant changes with the Galaxy S10, given that 2019 marks the ‘S’ series’ decade anniversary.

This new technology is Samsung-exclusive and may help integrate Qualcomm’s third-generation ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor. This sensor is touted to be much faster than the current optical solutions in the market, and it also has a larger recognition area. The tipster also notes that the new ultrasound screen fingerprint technology will be Samsung exclusive, at least for the first half of 2019, after which other OEMs will get a chance to integrate it in their devices as well.

This new Samsung technology has a distinct advantage it reportedly uses ultrasound to create an accurate, 3D image of your finger when you press it in the relevant area. It will supposedly be faster and has a larger recognition area. 30% of the screens may actually be recognized.

As per previous reports, The Galaxy S10 is slated to release sometime early next year and is expected to come in three variants, the cheaper variant is expected to dispatch with an optical in-display fingerprint sensor or a side-mounted sensor. The new upgrade seems to be the most radical upgrade though it can only be confirmed when it releases; possibly late February or early March of 2019.
