Today, May 9, Samsung announced that it has started providing a LED component solution in horticulture lighting. The newly introduced dedicated package for the concerned field is the ‘red LED’ package, and the tech giant further added horticulture lighting specs to the existing ‘white LED’ package.
The new horticulture LED, named LH351B Red, is a high-power package offering a wavelength of 660nm. The wavelength of 660nm will help accelerate plant growth, including photosynthesis, and will even enrich flower blooming.
It uses a PPF (photosynthetic photon flux) value of 2.15 micromoles per second (μmol/s), optimizing most kinds of horticulture lighting. The package further features an extremely low thermal resistance of 2.0 K/W (kelvins per watt), enabling smoother heat dissipation within the LED luminaires.
The LH351B Red possesses a similar electrode pad design as that of the previous models in the LH351 lineup. This design provides greater PCB design flexibility in luminaire manufacturing.
The other existing packages where Samsung added horticulture specs are the mid-power packages: LM301B and LM561C and the linear modules: H inFlux and Q-series.
The white LED modules and packages now have extremely high light efficacy that clocks to 2.92 micromoles per joule. In comparison, the LH351B Red can offer an efficacy of 3.13 μmol/J.
The high efficacy levels can minimize lighting impact on ambient temperature. Therefore, the growers get to control the temperatures better in just about any greenhouse environment and thus can enjoy savings on energy costs.
Samsung’s horticulture LED samples are available now and are as well demonstrated at the ongoing LIGHTFAIR International 2018 in Chicago (May 8-10, Samsung booth #1112).
