In today’s fast progressive world, Samsung memory solutions are always trying to make life easy regarding data handling. The newest addition is that the company announced V-NAND memory solutions and technology for enhancing data and storage aspects. The aim is to suffice the gradually increasing pressing requirements regarding next-gen data processing and storage systems.
Before two days (August 7), this year’s inaugural edition of the Samsung Tech Day and the Flash Memory Summit took place. In these events, Samsung showcased the V-NAND technology and a series of SSDs (solid state drives). These are the significant solutions to support modern data-intensive activities, like high-performance computing, real-time analytics, machine learning, and parallel computing.
The highly advanced V-NAND technologies provide data process speeds, ultra-low latency, and increased system scalability for cloud-based applications. This was said by Gyoyoung Jin, the executive VP, and Head of Memory Business of Samsung.
Samsung memory solutions to bring 1Tb V-NAND Chip
Samsung expects to introduce a 1Tb (terabit) V-NAND chip by the next year. It was first mentioned in 2013 when Samsung came up with the 3D-NAND chip for the first time in the markets. The 1Tb chip will stack 16 1Tb dies to enable 2TB (terabyte) of memory in one V-NAND package. The introduction is going to be one of the principal landmarks in memory advances of the last decade.
Next Generation Small Form Factor
Samsung memory solutions have another developing angle with the NGSFF SSDs with 16TB, the first in the market. This greatly enhances memory storage capacity and IOPS (input/output operations per second). It measures 30.5mm x 110mm x 4.38mm and will work on the 1U rack servers of today.
In a 1U server, the NGSFF SSD replaces the M.2 drives. This will provide an increment of four times the storage capacity. Furthermore, the 1U reference system gets to process about 10 million random IOPS. This is triple as compared to the IOPS performance of 2.5-inch SSDs. The fourth quarter of 2017 is most likely to see Samsung memory solutions coming up with the NGSFF SSDs.
Z-SSD of Samsung
Another new introduction to the company in the same field is that of its first Z-SSD product, namely SZ985. It provides high performance with ultra-low latency and finds its usage in the hands of enterprise systems and data centers.
The SZ985 helps to process extremely large data-intensive activities like high-performance server catching and real-time “big data” analytics. Its fast response time will serve to eliminate storage bottlenecks for companies, thus improving the respective TCO (total cost of ownership).
Key Value SSD
Last but not least, Samsung memory solutions introduced an entirely new technology named Key Value SSD. This will help in processing the complex data sharing on social media and IoT applications.
The Key Value technology of the company makes the SSDs vertically scale up and horizontally scale out in capacity and performance. This leads the Key Value SSDs to reduce redundancy, boosting faster data input and output. In the process, TCO increases, and the SSD life is majorly extended.
