Phones with dual cameras, mostly on the back and even on the front, are in vogue these days. But adding these features is not co-efficient or straightforward, especially for the smaller companies. And to help these companies, Samsung offers the industry’s first total dual camera solution. Samsung introduced a new dual camera solution with ISOCELL dual image sensors and proprietary software for refocusing (bokeh) and low-light shooting (LLS) for mid-range and entry-level smartphones.
According to Samsung, its total dual camera solution will make dual camera implementation much more comprehensible. This will allow budget phones as well as entry-level mobile devices to take advantage of certain camera features that were hitherto available only in premium devices equipped with an extra image signal processor. It is bringing its proprietary software and Algorithms in a single package so that it is much easier to bring these features in the low-tier phones. Thus we can enjoy bokeh or low-light shooting on cheaper phones as well.
The way Samsung places its words in the press release; it hints us that we have to choose any one feature over the other. There are basically two Samsung ISOCELL dual camera sensors, one is combined with a 13-megapixel and 5-megapixel image sensors with its refocusing algorithm, which is necessary for pulling off a bokeh effect. The other is coupled with an 8-megapixel image sensor with its LLS algorithm. The company is expected to offer multiple combinations for Samsung ISOCELL Dual solutions in the future.
The other budget and entry-level smartphones from OEMs is expected to adopt this solution later this year. Samsung might even use this solution for its own smartphones as well.
