The IFA 2016 is full of gadgets, a super event this time for gadget lovers. The companies like Apple and Xiaomi are all set with their products to be launched at IFA. Samsung is also in a race with other companies. At the IFA trade show in Berlin, Samsung showcased the brand new Tizen-powered Gear S3 smartwatches.
The watch features IP68 water resistance, mobile payments, LTE connectivity, and built-in GPS. The Gear S3 will be available in two designs, the Gear S3 Frontier and Gear S3 Classic. The Frontier is styled for those who want a rugged, outdoor watch that can perform in any environment; on the other hand, Classic features a minimalist, elegant style and is very luxurious in looks.
Both of the devices feature wireless charging to a 380mAh battery; Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC connectivity; and 4GB of memory. The upcoming wearables are powered by the Tizen OS, which sports a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass SR+. Gear S3 smartwatch runs on 1 GHz dual-core Exynos processors paired with 4GB store and 768MB RAM. The most eye-catching feature is its built-in GPS for navigation and IP68 water and dust resistant technology.
The Frontier version comes with adds 3G/LTE support, though it is not equipped in the Classic version. On the features part, the Gear S3 offers plentiful new features, including Samsung Pay support and handwriting recognition. You’ll also get pre-installed apps like and alti barometer and speedometer to track weather, distance traveled, and speed.
There was a signature rotating bezel on its predecessor; it’s now also present in Gear S3 but with a more useful feature as it lets you accept or reject calls and snooze alarms without having to touch the screen.
Gear S3 is thicker than the S2 by 1.5mm, which means it won’t wear quite the same on your wrist. But it is worth paying for all the additional GPS and LTE functionality. GSM Arena reported that the watches would sell for €399 in Europe when they launch.
