With the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, it changed the whole display market. Although it was not instantly popular, once the giant tech figures out and works on the various kinks, it will certainly turn heads. Last week, the US Patent Office revealed that Samsung had filed for a brand new display support system.
Samsung is aware that its Galaxy Z Fold 2 is more vulnerable to damage than its standard Galaxy smartphones precisely because of the foldable display used in the Z Fold 2. Samsung had mentioned that a foldable display is vulnerable to external impact, especially the display’s corners and folding area.
The patent filed with the US Patent Office claims to deal with this problem. Reportedly, the patent will cover a method that will work towards ensuring the prevention of the breakage. The patent proposes a new kind of foldable display device in which a rail is lodged between a display panel and a support member which will prevent damage to the display.
The embodiment of the proposed patent includes a first support member and a second support member that are separated from each other, and both the support members include a short side and a long side.
The South Korean tech giant was quick to acknowledge that its foldable display was not above enduring impact from the external forces. Now that the company has filed a patent that will work towards strengthening the structure of the display, and thereby, reducing the risk of damage due to an external force.
The new display support structures should soon come to the market. However, it is imperative to mention that filing a patent does not immediately guarantee the manufacture of the product for public use. Likewise, it may take Samsung sometime before they bring it to the market.
