Samsung is a leading television manufacturer. Last month the company introduced a series of the new QLED TV models with 4K and 8K image quality. The latest QLED TVs are all equipped with the Bixby virtual speech assistant from the Korean manufacturer. A recently published trademark application indicates that Samsung may want to link the name Q BIX to this in the future.
Samsung applies for a trademark for Q BIX
In the home country of Korea, Samsung has applied for a trademark for Q BIX. The trademark was published by KIPO (Korean Intellectual Property Office) on 13 March 2019 and it is categorized as Class 9 with the description; ‘audio speakers with artificial intelligence; televisions’.
The letter ‘Q’ seems to refer to QLED. Samsung also uses the names Q Picture, Q Style, and Q Smart to emphasize the different functions of the TV. BIX is a logical abbreviation for Bixby, the description also agrees with this.
Bixby 3.0 has been discussed for some time. This updated speech assistant will be available at the time of the introduction of the Galaxy Fold, the folding smartphone will be launched at the end of April. It is possible that the name Samsung Q BIX will be introduced when this updated version also becomes available for QLED TVs. The new models are expected at the IFA 2019 in early September.
