Samsung’s China-only flagship flip phone has been ultimately announced, the W2019. Like its predecessors, the new Samsung W2019 has two AMOLED screens as well as a flip phone design. The second screen features navigation keys with the latest Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 256GB storage, and dual rear cameras.
Last year, the South Korean mobile giant unveiled the W2018 and this year we have the ultra-premium W2019. This phone is all kinds of excess both inside and outside. Some of the biggest highlights of the W2019 is that it is the latest in the line of flagship flip phones launched in China by Samsung. While it may be a flip phone, it is crafted with premium materials. It is made from anodized diamond-cut aluminum and glass. Although the build of the phone shows off a retro design, the internals surely set it apart.
The W2019 has two 4.2 inch Super AMOLED displays with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1920 x 1080 resolution. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 845 SoC with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB storage options.
It sports two 12MP sensors on the back, one with a variable aperture of f/1.5-2.4 and the other with 2x lossless optical zoom. The front camera sees an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. Connectivity features on the device will include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, micro USB 3.1, GPS, and ANT+. There is a fingerprint sensor on the side of the handset. It weighs a hefty 257 grams and has a 3,070mAh battery.
In terms of design, the Samsung W2019 is made using anodized aluminum and glass and sports a diamond-cut design. However, it is rather thick at 17.3mm with the clamshell closed. It seems that this over-the-top phone will likely have an over-the-top pricing though it is still unknown. All we know is that it will go on sale in Silver and Gold colors only in China.
