Samsung announced its mass production of 2GB Low Power Double Data Rate 5 (LPDDR5) mobile DRAM, which would maximize the 5G communication and artificial intelligence ability of smartphones.
Samsung claimed the new chip as an industry first which is has embarked on the mass production of its 12-gigabit LPDDR5 mobile DRAM chip, optimized for 5G mobile devices. The new DRAM is 1.3 times faster than the DRAM unveiled in March. The new chip will help enhance the stability of 5G smartphones with machine learning features and high definition videos.

Samsung is also planning to expand production capacity for the latest LPDDR5 DRAM with the South Korean collaboration expecting a profit drop of 56% in the second quarter. The company is planning to its 12 GB LPDDR5 production to its Pyeongtaek (Korea) campus as early as in the starting of next year, to manage production capacity.
Samsung expects to develop a 16 GB LPDDR5 next year to keep its competitive pace up in the global memory market.
