Samsung officially launched its 10W wireless charger which is also a UV-C light sterilizer in India on September 19. The company claims that the device can kill 99% of bacteria germs while at the same time offering the service of charging any device that offers to charge any device that supports wireless charging.
Samsung had originally announced the device almost 2 months ago in July 2020, and although the device is already available in other parts of the world (in Germany, for example, it is priced at around $65), it will go on sale in India starting today.
The timing of the product makes it seem important since it has come at a time when people are particularly worried about the spread of the coronavirus. The market has seen a surge in the products that claim to clean phones and stop the spread of the virus.
It should be mentioned that the new sterilization cum charging device from Samsung, the ITFIT UV Sterilizer, does not claim to kill the coronavirus, and it should never be taken as a substitute for washing hands, wearing a mask, and observing social distancing.
The tech giant claims that its dual UV lights take about 10 minutes to sterilize items from the top and bottom, after the completion of which the device automatically turns off to avoid damaging the device. The internal compartment of the ITFIT UV Sterilizer can fit any device measuring up to 196 x 96 x 33 mm in size.
Samsung would not be the first company that offers a device that comes with the dual capacity of charging a device while offering to sterilize it using UV lights. Other companies such as Mophie and Invisible Shield had also come up with a similar device that was launched in June 2020, and are priced at $80 and $60 respectively.
