Snapchat is a great platform for the Millenials to explore their selfie experience at a more advanced level. It seems like Snapchat has something new to offer its users. Today, it announced a 3D camera mode for a better selfie adventure.
This is a whole new feature that allows the users to change perspective and appearance as one moves his or her smartphone around. With the help of Apple’s TrueDepth camera system, the app will use certain features like Face ID and Animojis, to make the Snapchat selfies more animistic.
This new Snapchat feature mostly targets iPhone users as the 3D camera mode only works in iPhone X or above. This new model is not yet available for Android users. However, one can still view the 3D snaps on the app. It cannot create any of its own.
In the report, the company informed that the app will support different camera sensors and Android devices eventually, but the exact time limit is not yet mentioned. The new 3D camera mode will enable the ability to use its 3D Effects, 3D Lenses, and 3D Filters to make the selfies more beautiful and lively. However, the feature only works with the iPhone’s front-facing camera for now. But the company assured that the users will be able to capture 3D content with Snapchat’s upcoming Spectacles 3 smart glasses.
As the report suggests, Snapchat will leverage “Apple’s TrueDepth Camera to take a high-quality image and then use depth data to reconstruct a 3D model that looks and feels like a mini diorama of what the iPhone’s camera has seen”. This will allow the users to rotate and wiggle the smartphone to get that 3D effect on the selfie Snaps.
We should consider that Snapchat has more than 203 million users who use the app every day. At this, the authorities are hopeful that this 3D Camera Mode will let the users add “a new layer of expression and interactivity to static images”.
We still have to wait and see when the new mode will be compatible with the users who don’t have access to the iPhone X or the higher models. We also think that Instagram may soon come up with some similar features to keep up with its rival app. Therefore if you have an iPhone X and above, go get your new 3D featured selfie; post them to your Stories, share in chat or save to your camera roll and enjoy!
